Au Revoir

This piece was inspired by my ballet teacher who started the first ballet school in Mumbai. She was my teacher and mentor since I had started ballet at the age of five. She passed away last year and after the school passed onto new management it just was not the same motivational and inspirational place it used to be. Hence I took the difficult decision to leave, but I knew that this wasn’t a goodbye to dance just a short vacation till I resumed it again.
This piece is my journey through ballet which started on a smooth surface and as time went on it became courser, rougher and harder, and finally, the door shuts on me. The texture shows how over time it became progressively harder for me to attend classes and enjoy dance like I used to. The ballet shoes are discarded behind me because I had taken the decision to pause my training. My feet were done with resin in an alginate caste, I loved experimenting with these materials.
